“Umbra” was recorded, mixed and mastered in Entasis Studios in Athens, Greece, from February to June 2018. The excellent co-operation between the band and producer Nikos Papakostas resulted in an alcohol-fueled, “ditch the metronome and keep it loud” approach to DreamLongDead’s sound. Standard elements, such as the double vocal attack, the crushing guitars, the pounding rhythm section and the storytelling mood of the lyrics, are still present;however a few innovations are being introduced this time.The songs are shorter, denser and faster at certain points, there’s also a grind music shot plus a melodic instrumental track that adds up to the overall cinematic horror feeling of this record.

The album features a haunting cover by the Polish surrealist artist Zdzisław Beksiński. Kamil Śliwiński (administrator of the official Facebook page of Zdzisław Beksiński) says: “This painting of Beksiński was made in the 1970’s in Sanok, Poland. Then the artwork was sold to a German collector, who unfortunately destroyed the original by cutting it into several pieces. To this day, we don't know how it looked in color”.

Very late to the party, but for several years I've found melodic black metal all too similar and all albums sounding like Dissection, etc... HOWEVER, not only I am back into it but UADA is still a layer of complexity above the main baseline and this is an old album worth having, that's a basic milestone in UADA's discography and I felt it needed to be part of my BC collection. sachavonkarl74
